Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) Training for PMP® Certification

 

Course Description

Processworks PMP® (Project Management Professional) Contact Hours Training course provides an overview to the fifth edition (2013) of the PMBOK Guide, and additional topics related to project management that are typically part of the examination curriculum.

 

Course lectures are supplemented with hand-outs and additional information for self-study, study tips, list of relevant books etc. The curriculum is intensive.

 

Full course attendance will earn the candidate a “certificate of completion”. This certificate of completion with 35 professional development units (PDUS) fulfils one of the PMP® exam eligibility requirements for project management education.

 

Course Methodology

The course helps participants understand concepts and terminologies that will be used in the PMP® including the five project management process groups and the integration of the ten associated knowledge areas. The tests & quizzes are closely aligned with the style of the PMP® exam, aimed at strengthening a candidate’s appreciation of project management principles and practice. The reasoning for deciding the best answer from the 4 multiple choice answers will be discussed The final 3 hours of this program would include a 110 question paper* (simulating the final exam). These questions are specially selected and arranged to help participants recall the course content, familiarity with the PMBOK® navigation (for concepts and jargon), and to confirm that they are aligned with PMI® interpretation of the project management best practices. The answers for the questions are discussed in the class.

 

Approximately 1-2 hours of lecture + discussion/relevant class exercises on each chapter, followed by a quick test (in the exam-style) on the topic covered.

Eligibility Requirements to take the PMP Exam

A candidate must either attain:

7,500 hours (approx. 5 years) of Project Management experience + 35 contact hours or 35 PDUs of Project Management Education for a Diploma or High School qualification holder

or;

4,500 hours (approx 3 years) of Project Management experience + 35 contact hours or 35 PDUs of Project Management Education for a Bachelor Degree holder

All project management experience must have been accumulated within the last 8 consecutive years.

 

Training and Exam Duration

Training: 5 days.

The course deliverables shall be issued on the first day of the course during registration.

Exam: 240 minutes (4 hours) duration

The PMP® exam consists of 175 multiple choice questions. The exam is closed-book, i.e. no materials are allowed to be used.  

The exam may be scheduled at a Prometric testing centre close to your location (www.prometric.com)

 Session 2: Project Lifecycle & Organization

  • Understanding the Project Manager’s autonomy and discretion based on the organizational style and maturity

 Session 3: Project Management Processes

  • Significance of the project management process groups of Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring & Control, and Closure as discussed in the PMBOK® Guide
    • Appreciating the necessitity for a formal project lifecycle
    • The tasks & associated activities of each lifecycle phase

 Session 4: Project Integration Management

  • Project Authorization, sponsorship & the importance of a Project Charter to commence/initiate the project professionally
  • Developing the project plan & associated knowledge area sub-plans
  • Executing the project according the project’s plan
  • Monitoring & controlling project execution to ensure that the work measures up to the expected performance
  • Managing project changes professionally via formal Integrated Change Control
  • Closing the project professionally and with care

 Session 5: Project Scope Management

  • Business background to pre-project activity and associated difficulties for the project manager if not involved in the proposal and bidding phase
  • Gathering requirements intelligently

  • Breaking down the project scope and creating a WBS to better manage the delivery of product & project scope
  • Verifying project scope attainment to ensure acceptance of project scope by relevant stakeholders

 Section 6: Project Time Management

  • Managing time in the project vis-à-vis project realities
  • Defining project activities and sequencing these to form a project network diagram (PDM methodology & application)
